There has been a surge of interest about the positive health effects of Omega-3 fatty acids derived from fish/fish oils – consisting of Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA) plus Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA).
DHA is essential in the brain and retina for the development and optimal cognitive function and visual acuity, mainly in young people, but also important in adults. DHA plus EPA are both considered to have beneficial effects in the prevention and management of cardiovascular diseases. Current intakes of DHA are below the desired target in specific groups, like children and elderly.
